The Business Planning Dilemma
April 11th, 2008

Elaine from Bismarck, ND wrote to me with the following:

Dear Captain BUZ:
I'm starting a new business and I am already too busy and yet, others keep telling me that I should write a business plan. I know that I'm just too busy to do this. What should I do?

I wanted to share my reply:

Dear Elaine:
The others are right - you should write a business plan because it brings all your ideas together in one place, helps you make better decisions, and helps keep things from falling through the cracks. Yet, the problems of time and when to do it are also far too real for most.

I have a suggestion: Use a business plan outline to lay out an outline of your whole business venture. In this way, you address all of the issues that need to be covered, and yet, are not spending the time describing all of the details (many of which you don't know yet anyway).

Visit The Business Planning Format for more information and a great outline. Download the article into your word processing software and start filling in the outline. You will find that in a very short time, you have created a very valuable document, and one that you can easily add to as the business continues to evolve.

Good luck, and don't forget to visit the free counseling resources in your area.

Sincerely,
Captain BUZ
