About Welcome Public Service History Team Deborah A. OsgoodVice President and Chief Knowledge OfficerProfessional BiographyDeborah Osgood, cofounder and chief knowledge officer of the Knowledge Institute, Inc., is actively involved in issues of national and global concern, with a particular emphasis on small business development, education and mentoring. In 2007-2008, Deborah participated in a historic event by helping to pioneer a U.S. Department of State Iraqi Businesswomen Partnership Program serving as a business mentor to a businesswoman in Iraq. This groundbreaking event is one of many examples of Deborah's work at the Knowledge Institute, which is a philanthropic organization that specializes in economic development on local, regional, national and global scale by creating interactive business-to-business resource communities, educational curriculum and collaborative communication strategies. As award recipient of the National Above and Beyond for Leadership in 2007, Deborah volunteers countless hours mentoring hundreds of women, veterans and youth in developing career and entrepreneurial skills and is piloting an online, interactive curriculum for this purpose where individuals follow an established 10-step program while working virtually with an experienced mentor. Specific contributions include mentoring two young girls through Big Brothers Big Sisters, serving on the Board of NH Jobs for America's Graduates and mentoring individuals in business as a SCORE Counselor to America's Small Businesses. Her primary work, for which she has been highly praised by receiving awards for Excellence in Business Services in 2007 and Enterprising Woman of the Year in 2008, includes the creation and hosting of over 57 small business resource communities. These include www.BUZGate.org and www.myVbi.org, both of which serve individuals looking to start and grow small business ventures; www.BUZvr.org that serves individuals with disabilities in attaining self-employment; www.nhmanufacturer.com that serves individuals in manufacturing; myWomeninBiz as a niche network serving women in business; myVeteransinBiz as a niche network serving veterans in business; nhIntern that served internship opportunities; BUZWorks that served workforce development initiatives; and nhCDC that served community development initiatives. Much of her published works in these communities has also been published by IBM and The World Bank in a resource community targeted at serving women and minorities in business. Early in her career, Deborah demonstrated her entrepreneurial talent for bringing together people, process and technology to create and advance profitable ventures. As co-owner and Executive Vice President for a high-tech manufacturer, she helped to expand sales internationally, grow revenues over 500% and create 65 new jobs in a ten year period. As Financial Analyst at Signal Companies, formerly Wheelabrator-Frye, Inc., she managed investment portfolios averaging $175 million and created a portfolio relational database management system resulting in improved ROI and transaction security. Her areas of expertise include strategic planning, marketing, operations, finance, Web site design and business development, and her efforts have led to the success of both start-up and high growth ventures in technology, manufacturing, service, and retail sectors, as well as nonprofit arenas.
