Who Am I? A Guide to Career Planning

By Deborah A. Osgood

How to Use this Career Development Program

Who Am I?: A guide to career planning is a self-discovery process that you can participate in by yourself or while working with a mentor or other trusted and supportive advisor. You may also participate online or purchase the workbook and complete some of the exercises manually.

Content is tailored to helping you identify different career opportunities relative to your inherent personality characteristics, talents and interests. Through a series of four steps and corresponding exercises, this Career Development Program will help you to discover what Dr. Ken Robinson describes in his book, The Element, as being in your element in terms of career and life. Being in your element essentially means that "you get it, you love it, you want it and you're making it a reality every day."

Beginning with Step I, you will learn how to "get it" by aligning your particular unique personality traits with complementary career opportunities. Step 2 will help you "love it" by identifying four core aspects of your unique life purpose. Step 3 will help you "want it" by visualizing precisely what it is that you want. Finally, Step 4 will help you to make your career aspirations a reality by teaching you how to build, nurture and maintain quality support networks consciously.

Throughout each of these steps, you will be presented with various questions that will help you to further think about, process and express what you are learning, discovering and wanting more of. You may email your answers to yourself by entering your email address in the field provided. You may also share your answers with your personal mentor by entering their email address in a separate field, along with your name. Your responses are confidential and not stored in a database for later retrieval and so you may want to maintain your own records if you choose to go back and review some of your responses at a later date.

The key to success in this program is you - just the way you are!

By simply participating fully and honestly in each of the exercises, who you are and what you love will quickly shine through. By proactively networking with and through others, you will be well on your way to making your dreams a reality and making a living in the process!
