Bail Out for Small Business: A No-Brainer for Bipartisan Support

Exeter, NH | December 2008 - Getting big business, government and small business to play well together in restoring economic stability might be viewed as an insurmountable objective, particularly given recent concerns in how big business bailout monies are being spent and the traditional infighting between Republicans and Democrats. However, with evidence of Obama's style for building bipartisan unison and private sector collaboration now unfolding in his choices for Cabinet posts and proposals for economic recovery, perhaps there is hope for a better future.

Laying the groundwork for such collaboration is a national initiative through Knowledge Institute, a philanthropic organization that specializes in economic development by creating and sponsoring online public service resource communities and educational curriculum. Through a Knowledge Institute sponsored project called Buzgate.org, government, big business and nonprofit economic development agencies are uniting on behalf of bailing out small business.

How it works is government and nonprofit economic development agencies are posting their free and low-cost small business assistance programs in an online resource directory at www.buzgate.org in order to help all entrepreneurs learn that their programs exist and where to go in their local communities to access them. When visiting the Web site, entrepreneurs will find free and low-cost assistance with such timely issues as small business credit, business funding and business development strategies.

Big businesses are getting into the act by underwriting the development of educational content focused around solutions for helping entrepreneurs to run their ventures more competitively and profitably. This includes such topics as alternative funding strategies, utilizing business credit, employing technologies to attain operational efficiencies, debt restructuring and outsourcing as a way to cut costs.

An entrepreneur from Nevada who visited www.buzgate.org recently wrote, "I just discovered your website and must say, 'Wow!' I am interested in starting a business and didn't know where to begin to look for information. Your Web site is a fabulous resource for what I need to start my business. You put my mind at ease."

As reported in Time Magazine, Obama plans to spend ½ trillion dollars to rejuvenate the economy, which includes the creation of 2 ½ million new jobs. With government, big business and nonprofit economic development agencies working together to provide targeted assistance to the approximate 30,000,000 small businesses across America today, 2 ½ million jobs would represent just over 8% of small businesses creating one new position.

"Small business is the backbone of our economy," says Dr. William Osgood, President of Knowledge Institute. "It makes sense to find ways for working together to ensure that entrepreneurs are aware of and have access to the resources they require for surviving the current economic crisis, as well as thriving in the future."
